Blue Gold: World Water Wars

While doing research for my presentation at the International Institute of Research conference on water demand and water security I found the following video:

The publisher of the video describe it as follows:

"In every corner of the globe, we are polluting, diverting, pumping, and wasting our limited supply of fresh water at an exponential level as population and technology grows, resulting in the desertification of the earth.

Corporate giants profit by forcing developing countries to privatize their shrinking water supply. Wall Street investors target desalination and mass bulk water export schemes to turn a global catastrophe into a product. Corrupt governments use water for economic and political gain, military control of water emerges, and a new geopolitical map and power structure forms, setting the stage for world water wars.

The good news is that people everywhere have fought and will continue fighting for their basic right to water, from Michigan court cases to violent Bolivian revolutions, from Mexican awareness Caravans to Maine citizens dumping bottle water back into their river, or even third graders protesting in grade school - People fight, because they must."

What's your take?

Introduction

With the population of the earth reaching beyond 7 billion discussions around food and water security are become more frequent by the day. Of course, with so many viewpoints by researchers, politicians, journalists, economists, bloggers etc. the real issues are, more often than not, distorted to suit predetermined conclusions.

The aim of this blog is to provide an overview of real water security issues; issues that require in-depth discussions about topics that  have significant impacts on our social norms.

The main focus point of this blog is “Water Security”. Articles, journals, speeches, research, etc will be discussed in terms of water security and what it means for people, industry, our economy and our planet’s future.
